What is an Oral Health Therapist?
Our fantastic team of Oral Health Therapists (OHTs) focus on the prevention side of dentistry. Previously known as dually qualified Dental Therapists and Dental Hygienists, our OHTs work with our patients to tailor prevention programs that keep our patients’ mouths as healthy as possible. This can include both in-practice therapies, as well as at-home regimes.
Prevention is especially important for our children and this is a big focus for our OHTs. We know how important it is for children to love coming to the dentist. You will find our OHTs performing examinations, fillings, extraction of baby teeth, cleaning of teeth and dental education including dietary advice in a kind and caring way.
For our adult patients our OHTs look at gum health, perform scaling and cleaning of teeth, treatment of gum disease, testing of saliva as well as tailored education to help patients improve their oral health including dietary advice, smoking cessation and general dental tips.
An OHT completes a three year Bachelor of Oral Health at university and is a registered practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). OHTs continue to update their skills/education through completing professional development courses throughout their career.
An OHT is an essential part of the multi-factorial dental team working to provide high quality, individualised dentistry for their patient’s long-term health and well-being. Want to know a little more about our team? Find out more here: https://www.withersdental.com.au/#our-team
